When I was chatting about our engagement photos with our photographer (the ridiculously talented Moondance Photography), she suggested we bring props for our photo shoot that represent our hobbies and interests. Since I love baking (and Mr. Pie loves any of the treats I bake) I knew cookies would have to be on the list. Typically I have been a Toll House Cookie girl, they are consistent and delicious, but this year I branched out and discovered this awesome recipe from Cooks Illustrated through How Sweet It Is. Jessica is an amazing baker and always has the perfect treats!
Instead of scooping and baking the cookies I pressed them into a jelly roll pan lined with parchment paper and baked them for approximately 20 minutes. I let them cool in the pan for 5 minutes then transferred them to a cooling rack to finish. Once they were completely cool I put the slab of cookies on wax paper and used a cookie cutter to cut out the heart shapes. I did this instead of rolling out and cutting them before baking to avoid the cookies puffing up and becoming misshapen. I also subbed Ghiradelli semi sweet chocolate chips for mini M&Ms. These were not only delicious but also were the perfect prop for our sweet photo shoot.
