Saying Yes to the Dress (or should I say Dresses?)

Mr. Pie and I had a simple vision for our day, we wanted everyone to be comfortable and enjoy the wedding. For Mr. Pie, this means he will be spending the day in cute tailored shorts, a button down, and leather sandals. (And yes, before you ask, I am sure I am fine with this) For me I knew I wanted to be comfortable but still feel like a bride. The high last year on our big day was 93 degrees and anyone who has been to Saint Louis can go from zero to swamp a** in two seconds. I started browsing online to see what I could find and decided in January to hit up David’s Bridal with one of my bridesmaids and her sister who is acting as my attendant for the day. We ended up going during their big $99 sale and let me give you some advice if you choose to do the same. First, make an early morning appointment. We took the first one available and I was so happy we did, it was nuts by the time we left and was wall to wall girls. Second, only bring a few people with you, even if you are dying to have your whole bridal party there. I was so glad to have those two girls with me, they were the perfect sounding board and let me make the decision. I’ve known them since college and they both get my personal style so I knew they would be the perfect compliment. Third, don’t count anything out. The dress I thought I would love looked Awful. Seriously terrible. In fact, here is the face I made when I came out in it and saw myself for the first time.

(Ick times ten)

When my friend Em pulled a cute dress off the rack that just looked okay I thought I would try it on just because and ended up falling head over heels in love. I could not stop referring to myself as a bride and never wanted to take it off. I cannot wait for Mr. Pie to see it on the big day and I think it will be absolutely wonderful. (That is also why it isn’t posted here, Mr. Pie faithfully reads my blog and I want to keep it a surprise!)

Now before we wrap this up into a neat little bow, I do have to talk about another dress. Right after we got engaged I found a dress through my favorite store, Target. Anyone who knows me knows I have an absolute obsession with Target and was browsing online after Christmas and found a perfect simple ivory dress at a steal. I decided to order it and when it came in loved it, it was light and comfortable. It will be the perfect reception dress and I cannot wait to rock it at the Irish pub we will be celebrating at with our family and friends. You may be wondering how we decided to enjoy our big day at an Irish pub, but that will have to be a story for another day…
