Is This Thing On?

Hi all! Holy cow, did we really move almost a month ago? And have I left you all hanging since then? Let’s go back and do some recap, shall we?

Mr. Pie and I moved at the end of April (wasn’t that yesterday?) and have loved being in our new house. It is amazing what an improvement having space to spread out makes. And I have a kitchen large enough to cook in for the first time in forever! Our movers were amazing, they seriously got everything done in under three hours and took great care of all our belongings. If you are in the Lou and looking to move let me know so I can pass their name along.

The funniest part came that same weekend, Mr. Pie and I were planning on adopting a pair of kittens once we were settled in and unpacked. Well, one of my parents’ neighbors was taking care of a momma cat who had delivered a healthy litter just eight weeks earlier. The day after we moved we went over to check them out and (surprise!) ended up taking two sweet babies home with us.

Meet Hudson (the gray girl) and Hush Puppie (the orange boy), the newest additions to our family! They are as sweet as can be and (thankfully) very healthy & happy kittens. I love them so so much and Mr. Pie and I just melt every time they cuddle up with us.

This weekend we hosted both families for the first time with a Mother’s Day celebration. Mr. Pie ran the grill and I whipped up sides for our families to enjoy. We lucked out with gorgeous weather and christened our patio for the first time with some delicious beverages.

(Ignore my crazy hair, it’s getting chopped this Saturday!)

So all this craziness has caused me to forget a little something… my 30 by 30 list. Today is actually the six month mark so we are T-minus 178 days and counting until I hit the big 3-0! I’ll be totally honest, the past few months have had me forgetting about most everything on that list. I’ve been doing well on some things and I still plan a big end of the year wrap up, but for now let’s just see where things go, okay?

That is all our craziness for now, thank goodness! What fun have you all been up to? Anyone else getting ready to ring in a big milestone? :)

Finish the Sentence! Link Up

I’m going to go ahead and apologize if the blog loses some steam over the next week or so because we are moving this weekend! I am so excited to get into our house and settle in so posts might be on the light side. I promise to come back with some before & afters along with any hilarious stories that happen our way during the shuffle. :)

For now I’m linking up with the hilarious Holly & Jake for another round of Finish the Sentence!

1. I laughed so hard I cried when… I read the 25 best/worst auto corrections of the year. I don’t know why but they crack me up!

We Hope:
2. My high school… was a blend of hippy & pretentious, which I think fits my personality to a T.
3. It really pisses me off… when people drive slow in the left hand lane and I’m trying to get home. Just move over!
4. In ten years… I’ll be getting ready to turn 40. I am so not prepared for that….
5. If I could erase one thing… it would be most of my fashion choices from 1996-2006. Ouch.
6. In 1999…I turned 16 and got a sweet ’84 Ford LTD2 to drive around in banana yellow. Just imagine driving two couches on wheels and you’ll understand.

(Image source It was a 4 door, and if you can stand the awesomeness, had an old school push button FM/AM radio. Hot!)
7. Honestly… there are days I just want to become a house wife again. I love contributing and using my knowledge & skill set but I so miss the biggest decision of my day being what to make for dinner.
8. To me, Sushi… is amazing! My favorite in the area is Sushi Ai, I love their honey roll, it tastes like Crab Rangoon and Sushi had a delicious baby.
9. Someone really needs to invent… a teleportation device so I don’t have to drive an hour each way to work. Either that or a pod I stick my head into that does my hair for me perfectly every day.
10. The first time I drank alcohol… I was probably around 3 or 4 and wondered what the “juice” my parents were drinking tasted like. I can remember getting a sip and thinking it was the nastiest thing ever, which is still mostly true for red wine in my opinion. :)
11. The one question I would ask God is… how badly does my mom beat you during your regular pinochle game? :)
12. Lindsay Lohan… needs to disappear. And deactivate her Twitter account.

Don’t forget to link your own hilarious answers up with Holly & Jake! And since I’m from St. Louis I have to ask, where did you go to high school?

Boston

At this point, I can’t even comprehend what has happened.

I’ve written previously about being a runner’s wife. Races have always been fun for me & Mr. Pie; we would get to see competition in it’s purest form, (hopefully) enjoy some nice weather outside, and get to see the pride & joy on people’s faces as they crossed the finish line.

It will all be different now.

My biggest fear used to be that Mr. Pie would possibly be injured or get dehydrated during a race. Now I’m not sure what to think. His next run is two weeks away and I’m sure it will be emotional for many of the racers there.

It just reminds us all, hug your family, tell the people important to you that you love them, and don’t take life for granted. I’ll also now add go out there and run or walk a race for all of those brave runners and spectators who might not be able to after yesterday.

Our local news station posted this on Facebook today, I think it sums things up pretty well.

I know I’m sending out some extra prayers tonight.

So What! Wednesday

Howdy all! I’m back again and linking up with the hilarious Shannon over at Life After I “Dew”. This week I’m saying “So What!” to…

  • I’ve made more progress on making a dent in the Easter candy than packing. Thankfully that just means it is one less thing to pack. :)
  • 99% of our groceries this week were frozen and of the “quick cooking” variety. Between packing & getting the house ready the last things Mr. Pie & I need are dishes!
  • Deciding what to wear each morning is a battle so each morning I’ve been leaving “clothes mountain” on our bed. Spring clothes are confusing!
  • Mr. Pie and I have eaten out more in the last two weeks than in the last few months combined. Exhaustion is trumping good decision making for the moment.

What are you saying “So What!” to this week? :)

So What Wednesday

High Five For Friday!

This has felt like the slowest week ever, and I am so ready to say TGIF and link up with Lauren!

 photo H54Fbutton-triangle_zps678b65ba.jpg

1. We spent last weekend working on our house and I cannot wait to get back in there tomorrow! I was never a huge DIY person but I think having a space that is changing that.

2. We are in the process of updating our furniture, we still need to purchase couches but our adorable chairs from Target came in last night and I can’t wait to see them in our living room.

3. Registration at school is officially in full swing! We are less than a month from the end of spring semester which means summer is that much closer.

4. I wore flip flops and capris to walk to FroYo last night, a huge change from two weeks ago when I was bundled up like a sherpa just to walk to my car.

7 Day Forecast

(check out that seven day, I cannot believe we will see the 70s tomorrow!)

5. Baseball season is officially in swing and this Monday our hometown team is back in action! Birds! :)

What are you ready for this weekend?

High Five for Friday!

Can I get an “amen” on it being Friday? Here’s what’s rocking my week!

 photo H54Fbutton-triangle_zps678b65ba.jpg

1. We got a “surprise” snow day on Monday and with a day off on Tuesday I lucked into a four day weekend with Mr. Pie. Score!

2. Registration is in full swing at school which means my days are packed. The good news is it means the week is also flying by!

3. Easter is this weekend which means I am reunited with my other true love – candy. :)

4. It’s Friday which means two things: Mexican Food and Target!

5. The best part is I can finally blab about my big news! Mr. Pie and I are moving on up, we bought a house!!!!!

We cannot wait to make it our own and (finally!) be out of our apartment. I promise at some point I will do a home tour and take photos along the way so you can see how we spiff it up.

That’s it for me so far! What’s rocking your Friday? :)

Wedding Wednesday: What a Trip!

Mr. Pie and I could not have been happier with our wedding day. We got home that night exhausted by overjoyed by all the love and support shown by our friends and family.

We got up early the next morning to catch our flight to our honeymoon destination, fabulous Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. We took a brief day trip there years ago while in Savannah so Mr. Pie could have his first trip to the ocean. I surprised Mr. Pie with a car service to pick us up so we could ride in style. And yes, I wore my tiara and “Just Married” tank top like a boss.

We flew first class and I have to say despite the extra cost, it was 110% worth it. Seriously. I had a hard time spending that much money on plane tickets, but Mr. Pie reminded me this would be our one and only honeymoon and after all the wedding crazies the last thing we wanted to do was wait in a billion lines and have no leg room all day. Of course, he was right. We also got to go through the short security line (woot!) and got to board early which kicked things off right (especially with complementary cocktails to boot!). Our flights were fairly smooth and we hit Hilton Head in the early afternoon. I got the biggest kick out of our car rental agent, she was so excited we were married and then asked me if I was 25 yet so I could drive the rental car. (I could have kissed her)

Mr. Pie with our sweet ride!

We headed onto the island and right as we got over the bridge another hawk decided to greet us on our way. We stayed on the Sea Pines Plantation which I highly recommend. We had a “Villa” (aka- large apartment) with a full kitchen, washer/dryer, and beach access. Here is our killer view that made me a very happy camper…

We played at the beach, shopped at the outlet mall, and had an absolute blast with our week off. Phone use was at a minimum and the best part about having all the apartment space was we could just relax if we wanted to. We ate out almost every night and found some new favorite restaurants. Here’s a few of our top choices:

Hudson’s (we ate there our first and last night, it is our favorite restaurant on the island and if I could I would drive there right now for dinner)

A Low Country Backyard (total surprise, but awesome food and a great atmosphere)

The Salty Dog Cafe (Mr. Pie’s Shrimp Po’ Boy)

We also took a day trip to Savannah and had some delicious eats. Our favorites there are…

Zunzi’s (as seen on the Travel Channel, yes it is as amazing as Adam Richmond made it sound!)

The Lady and Sons (ridiculous. fattening. amazing as always.)

And the always decadent, River Street Sweets (you have to check them out, if nothing else for the samples)

We came back fat, happy, and relaxed after our week off. Overall, it was perfect for us, from our wedding day to the day we landed we have hardly a complaint. Everything turned out better than we planned and we are so happy we stuck to our guns and did things our way. I hope you enjoyed all the recaps and our crazy day! :)

Wedding Wednesday: Bust a Move (and some tears)

After we finished up with dinner, our Maid of Honor and Best Man gave their toasts. My new sister-in-law gave a heartfelt speech welcoming me to the family. My brother-in-law shocked us all with his sweet toast. I expected him to tease his younger brother but it was so full of love and joy that there was not a dry eye in the house.

And to show it wasn’t all serious, he ended on a high note….

He actually gave me the full copy after the reception to read because he got to choked up to finish it there. I was sobbing by the end, it was wonderful! We then moved to cutting the cake. I surprised Mr. Pie with these special cake toppers from Etsy. “Ghostbusters” was his favorite childhood movie and mine was “The Little Mermaid” so I had to have something special to commemorate these.

We then moved onto the patio for our first dance. Mr. Pie and I had lessons with Simply Ballroom and it was so worth it! We felt a lot more comfortable and was more fun than your typical “eighth grade sway”. We danced to “Let’s Stay Together” by Al Green, one of our favorites.

And our big finale dip!

My dad and I were up next, and amazingly made it through without too many tears. We danced to Paul Simon’s “Fathers and Daughters” which still makes me cry today.

And Mr. Pie and his mom wrapped it up with a surprise song for her. Her favorite movie is “Dirty Dancing” so they got down to “Time of My Life”.

After that we bid farewell to everyone and packed up to head home!

So What!

Hey all! I’m linking up with Shannon from Life After I “Dew” for So What! Wednesday

  • So what that I wore jeans on a Wednesday? It’s cold and I’m tired of 90% of my winter wardrobe. I’ll probably wear them Thursday & Friday too.
  • So what my house is a total pigsty right now? There’s nothing I can do about it at this moment so I might as well not worry about it.
  • So what if I haven’t written this month’s 30 by 30 update? I’ll get there eventually :)
  • So what if I’ve already eaten my weight in Easter candy? Hopefully this means this year’s candy will last more than just a day.
  • So what if I splurged on some new clothes this weekend at Target? Mr. Pie & I were okay with spending the money and sometimes it’s nice to just spoil yourself.

What about you all? Anything you’re saying “So What?” to this week? :)  So What Wednesday

Wedding Wednesday: BBQ and White Dresses

I know there is a lot of controversy surrounding the “wedding gap”, where your ceremony and reception are not back to back. I think it can be annoying, but for Mr. Pie and I it was a necessity. We had a huge gap in our day, we sent everyone home around 11am after brunch and set up for our evening shindig didn’t start until 4pm. We had plenty of down time after pictures so we did what we love: we went home, put on comfy clothes, and relaxed for a few hours. I updated Facebook, Mr. Pie played some video games, and after a while we packed up and headed down to Clancy’s for our party.

We had a ton of help setting up so the place looked amazing. We lucked out, the restaurant is closed on Sunday so we got the whole place to ourselves. Mr. Pie and I sprung for a bunch of St. Louis classic appetizers and an open bar so people could enjoy themselves.

Our favors were also our centerpieces, we bought candy in our colors (at Easter) and put them in jars. Each person had a bag at their seat so they could pick and choose what they wanted to take home for later. Our nephews offered to help people who didn’t want to make their own and filled everyone’s up appropriately full.

(Just in case, the jars are cracker jars from Target, the labels are from Target, the scoops are from sand pails at Michaels, the bags are from Hobby Lobby, and the frames are from World Market. Whew!)

We started the night with Crab Rangoon, Toasted Ravioli, Fried Pickles, and Chicken Strips. For dinner we rocked salad, barbecue pork steak and chicken, baked beans, cole slaw, and garlic bread. I was a proud bride for making it through the whole dinner without spilling on myself!

(love this one of us!)
